This is why I started thinking I have an unusual/older board, the "clip"
definitely seems attached to the
battery. I have tried to prise them apart before resulting in the end of the
clip bending! Also there are
2 depressed marks on the clip where it looks as if it has been joined on.
The corrosion has only just
started, at the point where the base of the clip is soldered to the board.
